Cannusafe Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Baseline emissions footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline year: 2026. This is the company’s first year of operation and therefore serves as both the baseline and the first reporting year. Cannusafe Ltd is a micro-enterprise operating from a home office with no company premises, no fleet and no employees; commercial supply of its product commences in December 2026, so freight and logistics emissions will appear in reporting from 2027 onwards.

Estimates are calculated using the UK Government greenhouse gas conversion factors for company reporting current at the date of publication. As a pre-revenue micro-enterprise, figures are proportionate estimates and will be replaced by measured data as trading activity commences.

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following targets. We will maintain combined Scope 1 and 2 emissions below 1.0 tCO₂e per annum while the company remains home-office based, and source renewable electricity for the proportion of home-office consumptionm attributable to the company. From the first full trading year (2027) we will establish and publish an emissions-intensity metric of kgCO₂e per 1,000 units supplied, targeting a reduction of 5% per annum thereafter. We will hold at least 95% of inbound product freight to sea and road modes, with air freight by documented exception only, and we will prioritise rail and combined itineraries for business travel. Progress will be reported through the annual refresh of this Carbon Reduction Plan.

Carbon reduction projects

Completed and current initiatives: remote-first working with all routine supplier, adviser and distributor meetings held by video conference; a written-first communication policy that removes routine travel; specification of recyclable paper and board secondary and tertiary packaging for the product; validation of the product’s sterilisation to a maximum of two cumulative ethylene oxide cycles, limiting reprocessing emissions in downstream procedure-pack assembly; and dense palletisation of a physically small, lightweight unit to minimise freight emissions per unit supplied.

In the future we plan to implement the following measures: a supplier emissions data programme with our manufacturer, capturing energy and process data for converting and sterilisation at quarterly business reviews from 2027; consolidated shipment scheduling to UK distribution; a packaging review targeting at least 90% recyclable secondary and tertiary packaging by mass by the end of the first trading year; confirmation that 100% of die-cut skeleton waste is recovered or recycled at source; and completion of the NHS Evergreen Sustainable Supplier Assessment annually, using its outputs to align with the NHS Net Zero supplier roadmap.

Declaration and sign-off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard, and use the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting. Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions has been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
